\nWhile our two hotels Chiyotaki and Shintaki are a traditional onsen (Japanese hot spring) hotels, they are also modern-styled hotels. Kutsurogijuku is a hotel where “traditional” and “modern” are mixed together in a perfectly balanced way.<\/p>\n

What is Aizuwakamatsu famous for?<\/h2>\n

Our hotel can be found in Fukushima prefecture, Aizuwakamatsu city. Aizuwakamatsu is mainly famous about four things. It is often called as “The Samurai city”, because it has a strong connection to samurais and the famous Boshin war of Japan which was in the 19th century. The second thing it’s famous for is onsen (traditional Japanese hot-spring).<\/p>\n

The third and the fourth things are often stuck together, because Aizuwakamatsu is often called as a place where a very good quality of rice and sake (Japanese rice wine) can be found. Because Aizuwakamatsu is surrounded by mountains, its natural water is not only perfect as a source for hot springs but it is also very good for cultivating rice and making the delicious Japanese sake.
\nThe Japanese sake is mainly made from rice and water, so this perfect condition is so good for making sake that in the contest where they rank the best sakes of Japan, the Fukushima region has won the gold medal for 5 consecutive years, and more than half of the gold award-winning brands are from Aizuwakamatsu.<\/p>\n

About Kutsurogijuku<\/h2>\n

As we mentioned above we have two hotels, one which is called Shintaki and one which is called Chiyotaki. They are only 5 minutes away on foot from each other.<\/p>\n

Our connections to history<\/h3>\n

In Shintaki, we have four types of onsens; the most famous one among them is the one called Saru no yu (\u733f\u306e\u6e6f). Not only is it a very traditional-like Japanese hot spring, but it also has a strong connection to a famous samurai called Toshizou Hijikata, who fought and was wounded in the Boshin war. The Saru no yu onsen uses the same source of hot spring where he once healed his wound after the battle.<\/p>\n

Beside the onsen in Shintaki, we have another connection to a famous Japanese artist too. He is called Yumeji Takehisa who was a painter at the beginning of the 20th century. He was here three times in his lifetime, and it is said that while he was staying here, he painted a lot of Bijinga pictures (pictures about beautiful women) and landscape paintings as well. That is why we have a small gallery about him and his works in Shintaki.<\/p>\n

The beautiful onsen in Chiyotaki<\/h3>\n

Chiyotaki also has two beautiful onsens. But the most famous one between the two of them might be the one at the top floor of our hotel, which is called Y\u016bdzuki no yu (\u904a\u6708\u306e\u6e6f). Chiyotaki is at a hill between the mountains and because of this, from the top floor you can overlook the whole Aizu. The Y\u016bdzuki no yu onsen is an onsen where you can go outside and enjoy the relaxing hot water while looking the magnificent scenery of Aizu and especially at night when the sky is clear, the sparkling lights of Aizu has a beautiful scenery.
\nBecause Chiyotaki and Shintaki are so close to each other if you are a guest of one of them, then you can walk to the other and you can try the onsens there too.<\/p>\n

More than 30 types of local sake<\/h3>\n

In Chiyotaki and Shintaki, you can also drink from the more than 30 types of sake that were gathered from this region. And not only that, in Chiyotaki, the dinner is buffet-style, and all the food we serve is made from ingredients that were grown or cultivated in this region, so while enjoying the delicious sake, you can try out the food of Aizu as much as you would like.<\/p>\n

How can you come here from Tokyo?<\/h2>\n

In case if you’re coming to Aizuwakamatsu from Tokyo, you can use the Shinkansen train line from the Tokyo train station to Koriyama station. From there, you have to transfer to the Bunetsu West Line and get off at Aizuwakamatsu station. Our hotel is only 15 minutes away by car from Aizuwakamatsu train station, so you can grab a taxi there or use the public bus, which stops at the station.<\/p>\n
